Juliet struggles with her emotions

Starter

Juliet is comparing Romeo to a book because usually a book has a good ending but it hasn’t and now the ending is a “vile matter”. Plus she refers the”fairly bound” as the book cover. She expected to have a good ending but it didn’t hence the saying,”don’t judge a book by its acover,”. The language she is using are metaphors because she calling Romeo a book.

1. The nurse reacts by calling all men untrusted and bad people,”there’s no trust, no faith, no honesty in men,”.

2. After the nurse explain why men are untrusted people with no faith in them, Juliet counter her arguement because she still loves him,”Blistered be thy tongue,”.

3. The nurse promises that she will find Romeo (who is in Friar Lawrence’s cell) to comfort Juliet,”I’ll find Romeo to comfort you,”. She does this to stop Juliet from panicking and she wants to only sleep with Juliet, “But I, a maid, die maiden-widow,”.

Juliet’s dilema

Juliet use of antithesis I her speech to the Nurse highlights that she is bamboozled and perplexed hating on Romeo but she still loves him making opposite comparison.

An example of this the line is,”honourable villain!”. Juliet hates Romeo calling him a villain but because she still loves him, she calls him honourable which results in a an oxymoron.

This idea of opposite runs through the play.An earlier example is in the prologue explain the opposite families and the war between them.

Shakespeare’s use of opposing language reflects the fighting between the two families.

Act 2 scene 5

1. In the last scene, Romeo asked the nurse to do three things for him: he asks her to put a ladder up to Juliet’s room so he can visit Juliet, he asks the nurse if he could marry Juliet and ask the nurse to take Juliet to Friar Lawrence’s church.

The first reason why this scene highlights Juliet strength and impatient love for Romeo is because when nurse comes but to Juliet to tell the news, she teases her by taking her time on telling her, “Here’s such a coil! Cone, what says Romeo,”.

The second reason is that when Juliet is waiting for the nurse, she moans and complains about the nurse being too slow and if she was younger, she would be able to get back quicker,”The clock struck nine when I did send the Nurse; In half an hour she promis’d to return'”.

Act 2 scene 4

1. The reason is because tybalt is a violent and hates montague as he is a capulet. He is also wants to fight Romeo because he intruded into his uncle party.

Dear Romeo

It has come to my attention that you were at me uncle’s party and that has made me extremely furious. If you have the guts to fight me that do so. I hope you are there.

sincerely Tybalt?

The Balcony Scene (Act 2 Scene 2)

1. Shakespeare is showing that Juliet is like a goddess to him and is superior to him.

In this film interpretation, there are a lot of differences in the film compared to the original play. Firstly the setting has changed so instead of Juliet being on a balcony outside, the Balcony is inside a hall. Another key element that has been added to the scene in the film is a swimming pool which play a big role in the film. In the book, Juliet usually stays on balcony and talks to Romeo for all of the scene but in the film, Juliet comes down to Romeo’s level on the ground.

The characters were not too different between the two different adaptations but there was a few significant differences for example, they actually kiss in the scene. Plus, the nurse interrupts throughout the conversation especially at the end. Romeo also seems to be mor confindent than Juliet because he seems to kiss Juliet and Juliet doesn’t want to kiss her back because she doesn’t want to get caught.
